Kenyans, the Power To Fight Coronavirus Is In Your Hands

The numbers are rising. We are at 15 today. This is what you should know. The power to fight coronavirus is in our hands. It starts with heeding the call to social distance.

Before I tell you why it is all about us, let us look at what the government has put in place. Minister for health Mutahi Kagwe announced new measures today.

Let’s all get serious. Everyone is anxious. Everyone is depressed.  Nobody knows how this will end. One thing is for sure.  If you do your part, it will be over sooner rather than later.

“Like I cautioned last week, this is not a joke, Kenyans MUST treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves, by adjusting and changing their lifestyles. If we continue to behave normally, this disease will treat us abnormally. ” That is the minister for health Mutahi Kagwe today. This is not a JOKE. This is a PANDEMIC.

New Measures To Tame The Spread Of Corona

1. All international flights are suspended effective Wednesday, March 25th, 2020 at midnight with the exception of cargo flights whose crew must observe strict guidelines. Those coming into the country between now and Wednesday will undergo mandatory quarantine at a government-designated facility at their own expense.

2. Effective midnight tonight, all BARS will remain closed until further notice.

3. Public service vehicles to carry fewer passengers so as to effect social distancing. Those who fail to comply will have their licences revoked.

4. Religious gatherings are suspended. Funerals will be attended by family members only.

What You Can Do

Besides social distancing, spread the gospel. Tell another person why this is important. By now you already know that nobody is spared. Even younger people are getting  coronavirus.

Social distancing is hard. Let’s be honest. It will hit us hard. It could mean no work for some people. Eventually, there will be job losses. People will lose money. We can shorten the impact of social distancing if we comply now and minimise the number of people who get infected.

Alternatively, we can go the bullshit way and get a significant number of us sick and collapse our economy. Nobody wants the last option. Either choice is difficult. But we have to make difficult choices. That is why we are human beings.

Resist the urge to flout the rules and regulations. That lady who serves you tea on a cold chilly morning is better off social distancing so that she can serve you in a few weeks. Or months. That local that has been keeping you busy is going to suffer short term but will rise again sooner if you keep your distance now. God will hear your prayers from your home.

There is no time in the recent history that humanity has been called upon to rally around a course. That course is to fight the coronavirus. Do it as if your life depended on it. Because it does.
